MainStreet Oceanside is proud to announce that they are working toward a partnership with an art entity for the Arts Alive Banner Project. At this time, MainStreet Oceanside direction is aimed at working with art entities within Oceanside to bring a walkable art community to the downtown and surrounding areas of our community. With that in mind, the Arts Alive Banner Project has been put on hold temporarily. We hope to shed more light on its direction and timelines after February 15th, 2009.

In past years MainStreet Oceanside hosted the Arts Alive Banner Project. Local artists participated by creating one of a kind banners depicting what Oceanside means to them. Each year a theme was chosen.  In 2008, the theme was " Oh, Oceanside!"

Oceanside 's Arts Alive event is one in over 30 California cities which promote art and community in their own unique way by hanging the 30" x 84" vinyl banners along Coast Highway. The idea promoted driving the coast and walking the streets to view each city's banners; bringing art and community together in our downtowns. Each spring, you could take a tour of Downtown Oceanside where original Arts Alive banner paintings would brighten our streets from February thru May. The banners would hang on Coast Hwy. North of Wisconsin Ave and on Mission Avenue from Nevada Street to Pacific Street. The banner project culminated in the annual Arts Alive Banner Auction and Freedom Days Parade fundraiser. At the 2008 auction held on May 16, 2008, banners were auctioned off and proceeds were split 50/50 between the artist and MSO. The money raised by the Arts Alive portion of this event went directly into promoting the arts in Downtown Oceanside and helped offset the costs for this year's project.
